Ocular Disease in Children

by Andrew Morgenstern, OD, Conni Koury, Editor in Chief, Walter Whitley, OD

Given the increased diagnosis of dry eye, should optometrists be more proactive in discussing ocular surface disease with teenage and pediatric patients? Walt says that, as ODs learn more and more about dry eye disease, it is important to evaluate all patients for signs and symptoms. Andy asserts that ocular surface conditions can be addressed with minimal treatment in younger patients, but adds that digital device use should be considered when evaluating for dry eye.
